Christoph Grund
Composer and musician Christoph Grund was born in 1961. He studied with Maria Bergmann, Gunther Hauer, Bernhard Wambach, Werner Genuit, Eugen Werner Velte, Mathias Spahlinger and Wolfgang Rihm. He recieved scholarships from Centre Acanthes in Paris, the Foundation Thyll-Dürr, Zürich from the International Music Institute in Darmstadt and the Heinrich Strobel Foundation of Südwestfunk. He was a member of the New Composers Association. Mr. Grund is performing with formations like the ensemble recherche, KNM, Berlin, Ensemble Phoenix and Ensemble Intégrale, the various orchestras of the German Radio under the direction of f.e. Leitner, Gielen, Zender, Cambreling, Nagano, Metzmacher, Zagrosek, von Dohnanyi.
Mr. Grund frequently performs at numerous music festivals. (Salzburger Festspiele, Berliner Festwochen, Wiener Festwochen, Festival d´Automne, Paris, Warschauer Herbst) He is further active as a vocal accompanist and chamber musician partly in formations of is own.
Another aspect of his musical spectrum is his participation in the project Modal Tapestry, which combines classical indian music (sarod and direction: Ken Zuckerman, tabla: Anindo Chatterjee) with elements of jazz (guitar: Keiju Nakajima, trumpet: Jalalau Nelson Kalvert) and classical european music (members of the SWR Symphonic Orchestra).
Most important stations of concert tours during the last seasons were the Carnegie Hall, New York, the Kioi Hall, Tokio, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Chatlet and the Opera de Paris, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Gewandthaus, Leipzig, the Philharmonie Warschau, Bayrische Staatsoper, München, the Center for art and mediatechnologie (ZKM), Karlsruhe.
The main portion of his concerto repertoire includes works of Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, Satie, Ives, Cage, Feldman, Nono, Barraqué, Boulez, Globokar, Ustwolskaja and Rihm. He finds a very personal way of cooperation with the composers , Marko Ciciliani, Wolfgang von Stürmer, Andreas Raseghi, Iris ter Schiphorst, Rolf Riehm, Rebecca Saunders, Helmut Oehring, Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Chris Newman, Klaus Ospald, Misato Mochizuki, Mark Andre and Georg Friedrich Haas, etc.
Mr. Grund has recorded piano music for all the major german radio-stations and did also recordings for CD-productions. is own compositions include pieces for solo instrumental and chamber music, audio tape pieces and electronic music, multimedia performances, music for video produktions and radio theatre. Another important part of his composing activities is the development of new forms for contemporary opera in cooperation with Birthe Bendixen.
