Kinky means quirky and weird, muppet is an idiot or an American puppet, Kinky Muppet is the name of a fishing lure, and Kinky Muppet is a band from Vienna. Their songs sometimes rattle along sluggishly, then they assault the audience with cheerful polter riffs, only to break out of the rut once again with unexpected bridges and rhythm changes. No expectations, but also no blandness.
The motto of Katrin Plavčak, Nicholas Hoffman and Oliver Stotz seems to be: Just don’t fulfil any clichés and still remain rock’n’roll. Sophisticated chord sequences and solos on guitar and bass guitar alternate with rousing choruses and thoughtful and fantastic vocals, whose lyrics and rhythmic quirks are in no way inferior to Captain Beefheart or Juana Molina in their marvellousness and songfulness. No wonder, since all three Kinkys (or Muppets?) are also adept in other artistic fields and perform with drive and thrive. They are buidling a road in the middle of the street. Yes? Yes, yes.
