Lukas Stamm
Lukas Stamm (*1994) is a composer, pianist and harpsichordist. He grew up in Schaffhausen and studied composition and piano in Freiburg im Breisgau, Lucerne and Stuttgart. Jörg Widmann, Dieter Ammann, Marco Stroppa, Florian Hoelscher and Benjamin Moser were and still are his most influential teachers. He received further important impulses for his musical work from Alberto Posadas, Helmut Lachenmann, Brice Pauset, Nicolas Hodges, Markus Becker, Edward Rushton, Stefan Wirth, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, Bettina Seeliger and Christine Schornsheim, among others.
At the center of his interpretative and compositional work is the question of the relationship of the present to history and tradition. For this reason, the search for a historically appropriate interpretation and playing on historical keyboard instruments is an important concern for him. He is harpsichordist of the baroque ensemble Prospero Consort. Other central issues in his work include the search for relationships between language and music and his interest in chamber music as a form of interpersonal communication.
His works have been premiered by ensembles such as the ensemble für neue musik Zürich, Camerata Variabile, Mondrian Ensemble, Nerida Quartett, Echtzeit Ensemble and Ensemble Sargo, and he was an academy member for composition at the SWR Vokalensemble in the 2021/22 season. As a composer and performer, he has appeared on stages as diverse as the next generation concert at the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the International Bachfest Schaffhausen, the Swiss Chamber Music Festival, Gare du Nord Basel, impuls Festival Graz and the Telemann-Zentrum Magdeburg. In the near future, he is scheduled to give (premiere) performances with the Collegium Novum Zurich, the IEMA Ensemble at the Lucerne Festival, the Mizmorim Festival Basel and a performance with the SWR Vokalensemble at the Eclat Festival Stuttgart.
He has been awarded various prizes for his multifaceted work, including the International Lake Constance Conference’s Cultural Promotion Prize and the Walther Bringolf Music Prize from the city of Schaffhausen. In addition to his artistic activities, he is a passionate teacher and teaches at the Zurich Conservatory of Music and in Einsiedeln. He lives in Zurich.
