Michael Alber
Michael Alber was choir director of the Staatsopernchor Stuttgart from 1993 to 2012, with whom he won the title »Opera Choir of the Year« nine times during this time. He has been a professor of choral conducting at the State University of Music in Trossingen since 2012. Numerous concerts, rehearsals and productions have regularly brought him together with the SWR Vokalensemble, RIAS Kammerchor, Berliner Rundfunkchor, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Choeur de Radio France. Further engagements have taken him to the Ruhrtriennale, where he has worked on concert programs and several operas with Chorwerk Ruhr, including Lachenmann’s »Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern«.
Michael Alber is stylistically versatile and has conducted numerous world premieres, as well as chamber music a cappella literature from all eras, large-scale oratorio literature and choral symphonies. In addition to many radio recordings and CD productions, he has made recordings with the German Chamber Choir (Psalmus music in Jewish-Christian dialog) and several CDs with the Orpheus Vokalensemble, including the first recording of Franz Schreker’s choral works, as well as the recording of all of Lili Boulanger’s choral works.
