Ulrich Kreppein: HeadspaceUrban Sound Spaces No. 3

for 24 voices

after the poem ‘Sleepless City’ by Federico García Lorca

There are always voices in my head.

My own, the voices around me, on the streets, in the trains, from the phones, from the screens.

Texts turn into voices in my thoughts, just like images, signals.

The voices connect, blend with mine, become voices

in all of our heads.

Voices that never fall silent, born of boredom and fear.

We are a vast head, in which the voices never stop, a cluster of murmuring, whispering, speaking, or shouting heads.

The world is a headspace, a theatre in which there is never a pause, full of voices fighting loudly for attention in the inner rooms of the mind.
